This study aims to explore the major factors influencing the experiences of socialmedia alienation among young adults and to seek practical measures to alleviate alienation
based on the findings. To this end, social comparison, self-disclosure, and network
structure on social media are hypothesized as the main mechanisms of alienation, and the
way each factor operates and its influence are deeply analyzed through a review of
theories and previous studies. The analysis shows that the structural characteristics of the
social media environment and the psychological and behavioral tendencies of users
complexly affect young adults' experiences of alienation on social media. This study is
meaningful in that it deepens the understanding of the issue of social media alienation
among young adults and provides a starting point for practical interventions.
