On October 7, 2023, the Palestinian armed faction Hamas suddenly launched a large number of rockets into Israel. In addition, Hamas members crossed the Gaza Strip wall and boldly attacked nearby Israeli territory. Israel immediately declared war and attacked Hamas across the Gaza Strip wall. The situation of division of the Korean Peninsula is no different from here. Hamas’ mass rocket attacks and surprise infiltration remind us of the reality of our security that has been obscured by North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats. North Korea has a large-scale artillery force that cannot be compared to Hamas. Therefore, although it is a foreign war taking place in the Middle East, it will have significant implications for us considering the situation on the divided Korean Peninsula. With this awareness of the problem, as we prepare for war against the threat of North Korea’s missiles and long-range artillery, those involved in national defense elements (the Armed Forces, reserve forces, police, maritime police, civil defense, national agencies/local governments, and workplaces with integrated defense councils) must be somewhat cautious. We must be able to view and analyze this war from a different perspective.
