현대 군사작전의 복잡성과 비대칭 전쟁 환경에서 전통적인 규칙 기반 윤리교육의 한계가 드러나고 있다. 본 연구는 2025년 1월 미 해병대 MAG-49 부대에서 시행된 ‘Ethical Warrior’ 프로그램을 사례 로 하여 가라테 도 철학과 국제인도법의 통합 가능성을 탐구하였다. 질적 사례 연구를 통해 가라테 도의 절제･수양 원칙과 IHL의 비례성･구별 원칙 간의 철학적 수렴점을 분석하고, 체현적 학습을 활용한 윤리 교육의 효과를 검증하였다. 연구 결과, 동서양 윤리 체계의 통합이 전통적 인지적 접근법보다 윤리적 의 사결정 능력 향상과 조직 문화 개선에 더 효과적임을 확인하였다. 이러한 발견은 21세기 다문화 군사 환 경에 적합한 새로운 군사윤리 교육 패러다임을 제시한다는 점에서 학술적･실무적 의의를 갖는다.

The complexities of modern military operations and asymmetric warfare environments have revealed the limitations of traditional rule-based ethics education. This study explores the integration potential of Karate-Do philosophy and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) through a case study of the ‘Ethical Warrior’ program implemented by the U.S. Marine Corps MAG-49 unit in January 2025. Using qualitative case study methodology, this research analyzes the philosophical convergence between Karate-Do’s principles of restraint and self-cultivation and IHL’s principles of proportionality and distinction, while examining the effectiveness of embodied learning in ethics education. The findings demonstrate that the integration of Eastern and Western ethical systems is more effective than traditional cognitive approaches in enhancing ethical decision-making capabilities and improving organizational culture. These discoveries hold academic and practical significance in presenting a new paradigm for military ethics education suited to the multicultural military environment of the 21st century.
